The United States welcome Belgium to Lumen Field in Seattle, kickoff 02:00 CAT on Tuesday morning, with a place in the quarter finals on the line. The hosts beat Bosnia and Herzegovina to reach this stage, making it three wins from four games so far at this World Cup. Belgium topped their group and came from behind to beat Senegal after extra time, so both teams arrive with momentum but plenty of questions. United States

The United States have been excellent this tournament, reaching the last 16 with a 2-0 win over Bosnia after finishing on top of their group. They appeared to have suffered a big blow with the suspension of Folarin Balogun following a red card in that Round of 32 clash, but in a huge boost that suspension has been overturned and he will be available to playChristian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Malik Tillman carry the creative load, and Tillman is a genuine set piece threat. In my opinion Mauricio Pochettino's side can hurt Belgium, particularly with Balogun now able to play.

Belgium

Belgium have not hit top form yet, drawing with Egypt and Iran before thrashing New Zealand and then surviving a scare against Senegal that Youri Tielemans settled in the closing seconds. Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku give them match winners in the final third, with Thibaut Courtois a reliable presence behind a back line that has looked shaky at times. Zeno Debast remains a doubt but is unlikely to feature anyway, and the rest of the squad is available. My read on this is that Belgium have more individual quality, and that should tell over 90 minutes.

Predicted Lineup: Courtois; Castagne, Mechele, Theate, De Cuyper; Tielemans, Vanaken; Trossard, De Bruyne, Doku; De Ketelaere.

Both defences have looked vulnerable and both attacks can score, so I expect an open game with goals at either end. Belgium's greater quality should just about see them through, even if the United States make them work for it. My forecast: United States 1 Belgium 2.
