Scotland vs Morocco Analysis
Scotland
Scotland could not have asked for a better start, John McGinn settling a tight game against Haiti to send them to the top of the group. In my opinion Steve Clarke will again prioritise defensive solidity, with Hendry and Hanley marshalling the back line and Robertson providing the attacking width from full back. Scott McTominay carries the main goal threat from midfield, and the squad has come through the opener without fresh injuries. My read on this is that Scotland will sit back, stay compact and look to frustrate a Morocco side full of flair.
Predicted Lineup: Gunn; Robertson, Hendrey, Hanley, Hickey; McGinn, Ferguson McTominay, Gannon-Deak; Adams, Shankland
Morocco
Morocco opened the scoring courtesy of Ismael Saibari against Brazil, and though they were unable to hold on, a draw was nonetheless a good result. They know a win here would put them in a commanding position in this group. Under new coach Mohamed Ouahbi the Atlas Lions still build around Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Diaz, the latter of whom gives them genuine class in the final third. Importantly, there are no new injury concerns in the camp. From my point of view Morocco have the better individual players and should carry the greater threat, even against a well-drilled Scotland defence.
Predicted Lineup: Bounou; Hakimi, Diop, Riad, Mazraoui; El Aynaoui, Bouaddi; Diaz, Ounahi, El Khannouss; Saibari.
Scotland vs Morocco Prediction
Scotland will make this difficult and I would not be shocked by a low scoring stalemate, but I keep coming back to the gulf in attacking quality between these sides. I expect Morocco to find a way through a stubborn Scotland rearguard and see the game out without conceding. My forecast: Morocco 1 Scotland 0.
Scotland vs Morocco Best Bet
Under 2.5 Goals (1.66)
Scotland scored once and conceded none in a cagey opener, and Steve Clarke will set up to keep this tight again against superior opponents. Morocco carry the quality to win it but rarely blow teams away, and a patient, low scoring afternoon suits the way both teams are likely to approach this. In my opinion under 2.5 goals is the most reliable angle in a game that should be settled by a single moment.
