World Cup 2026 Portugal vs Spain

Portugal vs Spain Best Odds

Portugal and Spain meet in Arlington, Texas, kickoff 21:00 CAT on Monday, in a last 16 tie between two of Europe's heavyweights. Spain arrive unbeaten and yet to concede a goal at this World Cup, while Portugal reached this stage thanks to a late Goncalo Ramos winner against Croatia. There is no shortage of history between these two times, who drew in last year's Nations League final before Portugal edged the shootout. BettingTop10 South Africa has been building toward this Iberian derby since the draw was made. For all our World Cup betting predictions, head to our dedicated section.

Portugal vs Spain Analysis

Portugal

Portugal have blown hot and cold at this tournament, thrashing Uzbekistan by five goals but also drawing a blank against Colombia and needing a stoppage time Goncalo Ramos header to edge Croatia. Cristiano Ronaldo remains the focal point and penalty taker, and in my opinion the creativity of Rafael Leao and Bruno Fernandes will be key against a miserly Spain defence. Ruben Dias has shaken off a fitness issue and should anchor the back line, with Nuno Mendes and Joao Felix also fit. My read on this is that Portugal have the talent but have looked laboured in the final third.

Predicted Lineup: Costa; Cancelo, Dias, Veiga, Mendes; Vitinha, Neves; Neto, Fernandes, Leao; Ronaldo.

Spain

Spain have been one of the most complete teams in the tournament so far, winning their group and following up with a comfortable win over Austria without conceding. They have kept four clean sheets from four matches, with Rodri screening a settled back line and Lamine Yamal providing the spark on the right. The concern for Luis de la Fuente is in wide areas, as Nico Williams and Yeremy Pino both picked up injuries against Uruguay and are in danger of missing this tie. Even so, I expect Spain to control possession and to threaten the back of the net more often than their opposition.

Predicted Lineup: Simon; Porro, Cubarsi, Laporte, Cucurella; Rodri; Pedri, Olmo; Yamal, Oyarzabal, Baena.

Portugal vs Spain Prediction

Spain's defensive record and Portugal's struggles to break teams down point to a tight, low scoring affair. I expect Spain to edge it with a single goal and keep another clean sheet, with Portugal likely to be frustrated once again. My forecast: Portugal 0 Spain 1.

BTTS: No (2.17)

Spain have not conceded a single goal at this World Cup and Portugal have already been shut out once by Colombia. With Spain likely to dominate the ball and Portugal having not shown the most fluency in attack in most of their games this tournament, I am backing both teams to score to land on no at 2.17.
