World Cup 2026: Panama vs Ghana Tips, Odds & Prediction
Panama vs Ghana Best Odds
* Odds from Betway, correct at time of writing.
Panama and Ghana meet at BMO Field in Toronto in a finely balanced Group L opener, with kickoff at 01:00 CAT on Thursday, June 18. Thomas Christiansen's Panama are compact and difficult to beat, while Carlos Queiroz's Ghana carry more individual talent but travel in poor form. I expect a close, low scoring contest that could go either way. For all our World Cup betting tips, head to our dedicated section.
Panama vs Ghana Analysis
Panama
Panama are a well-drilled, disciplined side and in my opinion they are tougher to beat than their ranking suggests. Christiansen has spent years building a compact defensive block, and though they have conceded a few goals in recent friendlies they have nonetheless demonstrated some solid form. They held Bosnia-Herzegovina to a draw and beat the Dominican Republic in their build up, though they lost heavily to Brazil, and they will be without the injured Adalberto Carrasquilla in midfield. My read is that Panama will sit deep, defend their box and look to punish Ghana on set pieces and breaks.
Predicted Lineup: Mosquera; Harvey, Andrade, Cordoba; Murillo, Godoy, Martinez, Davis; Rodriguez, Waterman, Diaz.
Ghana
Ghana have the stronger individual names but from my point of view their recent form is a genuine worry. The Black Stars have won just once in their last seven outings and have not kept a clean sheet across that run, conceding freely along the way. Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew give them real quality in the final third, and Thomas Partey anchors the midfield. My read is that Ghana will dominate the ball but could be vulnerable at the back against a side that is more than capable on the break.
Predicted Lineup: Asare; Adjetey, Djiku, Opoku; Yirenkyi, Partey, Sibo, Mensah; Semenyo, Williams, Ayew.
Panama vs Ghana Prediction
This has the makings of a tense, even game between a disciplined Panama and a talented but fragile Ghana. I expect both sides to have moments, but neither defence inspires enough confidence for me to back a clean sheet, and a share of the spoils would not surprise me at all. My forecast: Panama 1 Ghana 1.
Panama vs Ghana Best Bet
BTTS: Yes (1.96)
I am backing BTTS: Yes and my read on this is that Ghana's leaky defence will give Panama chances, while Ghana's attackers have the quality to find a way through. Ghana have failed to keep a clean sheet in seven straight games, and Panama scored freely in their warm-ups. At 1.96 both teams to score looks the strongest value in this matchup.
