Canada welcome Switzerland to BC Place in Vancouver for their final group game, kickoff at 21:00 CAT on Wednesday. Both sides arrive on four points, with Canada top on goal difference after a 6-nil thrashing of Qatar, while Switzerland recovered from a draw to dismantle Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1. Canada have been the surprise of the group, following a battling 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina by tearing Qatar apart 6-nil, and in my opinion Jesse Marsch has them organised and dangerous on the counter through Jonathan David and Cyle Larin. Captain Alphonso Davies has worked his way back from a hamstring problem and his return down the left adds real thrust, while Stephen Eustaquio and Ismael Kone give the midfield control. Sitting top on goal difference, Canada know a draw is enough to potentially finish first, so I expect a measured rather than gung ho approach. With qualification all but secured, I read this as a side happy to manage the result rather than chase it.

Switzerland

Dan Ndoye and Breel Embolo carry the attacking threat, and the Swiss have the tournament know-how to grind out exactly the result they need. They sit second only on goal difference, so a draw would also be enough for them to progress, which tempers the urgency to chase goals. I expect a disciplined, low-risk performance from a team that rarely beats itself.
