Canada host Morocco at NRG Stadium in Houston in the Round of 16 on Saturday, with kickoff at 19:00 CAT. The co-hosts reached the last sixteen for the first time through Stephen Eustaquio's late winner against South Africa, while Morocco edged the Netherlands on penalties to underline their knockout pedigree after a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes plus extra time. Canada

Canada have ridden a wave of home support and Jesse Marsch has them organised and dangerous on the counter through Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David. The blow for me is the absence of Ismael Kone, whose broken leg has forced Eustaquio into a deeper role and stretched the midfield. Davies is still working back to full sharpness after his own injury and may be limited to a role off the bench. I think Canada will need David to take a rare chance, because sustained pressure against this Morocco defence looks unlikely.

Morocco

Morocco are the standout African side of the modern era and Mohamed Ouahbi has kept the structure that carried them to the 2022 semi-finals. Achraf Hakimi drives them forward from right back and Brahim Diaz has been excellent in the pockets, with Youssef En Nesyri leading the line. They have genuine strength in depth and no fresh suspensions, which is why I make them clear favourites. My read on this is that Morocco will control the tempo throughout this game and pick their moment rather than force it.

Morocco have the better players in almost every position and I expect their control of possession to wear Canada down. The co-hosts will give everything for their crowd, but without Kone I think they lack the platform to hurt Morocco. My forecast: Canada 0 Morocco 2.

Under 2.5 Goals (1.63)

I am backing Under 2.5 Goals and my read on this is that both sides are built on defensive solidity rather than open football. Morocco rarely conceded on their way here and will happily manage a lead, while Canada without Kone will be cautious about committing bodies forward. At 1.63 a low scoring, controlled knockout tie looks the smart play.
