How to Bet on the World Cup

64 international matches in 29 days only takes place once every four years with hundreds of betting markets available on every match. The group stages offer you the opportunity to place those accumulator bets early as there 48 matches during the group stage.

Most popular markets

Outright winner

The World Cup represents an opportunity for punters to make great money if they back the correct outright winner. There will be great odds offered especially if the winner is not one of the favoured team. It is a good idea to place a wager on a team like Germany who traditionally always perform well at World Cups

Multibet

The multibet offers punters the best chance of winning big as you will be selecting a number of teams in one bet. The odds increase as the number of selections on the bet increases.
The smart money in the World Cup should be on the multi bets as there are many matches being played giving punters opportunities of making great money. Look out for odds booster offers from online sites.

Head to Head betting

This form of betting has shorter odds as there are only two teams involved but there are hundreds of markets available for one match. Some of the bets available is the 1×2 bet which is referred to as a three way bet of home team (1), draw(x) or away team (2). These are all full time result bets and do not include extra time or a penalty shootout. The Double Chance bet is when you choose the home team to win or draw(1x) or the away team to win or draw( 2x). There is also a third option in the double chance whereby either team will win (1or2).Handicap betting is hugely popular especially when there is a heavily favoured team.

The favoured team may start with a -1.5 handicap meaning that team must win by 2 or more clear goals for the bet to be a winner. You can also bet number of goals in a match and that bet is called the over/under bet. The bookie will offer punters a +2.5 goals benchmark. You decide to bet or over 2.5 or under 2.5 goals. Look out for bookies that offer the Build a Bet feature which allows you to make multiple bets in one match.

Winner of the group

There is excellent money to be made if you can take a multi bet and correctly predict the winner of each group. The bet will consist of eight selections and you could use teams like Brazil, France and England as bankers as they are heavily favoured to win their respective groups.

Golden Boot winner

There is always great excitement surrounding who will be the leading goal scorer in the World Cup and this year’s tournament is no exception. The likes of Harry Kane, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe are among the favourites to top the scorer’s charts but the like of Ronaldo and Messi can never be discounted. There are always great odds on this type of bet.

Which team will progress further in a head to head contest?

One of the other bets available to punters is the option of predicting if England for example will go further in the tournament than Belgium. There is also the option of both teams exiting at the same stage which of course will offer the best odds.

Difference between a Multibet and a Single Bet

The single bet is when you bet on the result of one particular match or one particular match event like Both teams to score (BTTS). The multibet or accumulator is a bet whereby you make two or more selections. All your selections need to be correct for the bet to be a winner. The more selections the better the odds. Remember the higher the odds the greater the risk and of course greater the rewards.

World Cup 2022 Betting Schedule Strategy

There are different types of strategies for punters to employ during the tournament. If you planning on taking the over 2.5 goals bet in a particular match, you need to look at the defence and attack of both teams. If both the teams have great defenses then it would be better to bet on the under 2.5 goals option. When betting on which player will be top goal scorer, you must take into consideration factors like is he the penalty taker for his team or will his team progress past the group stage. If you choose the top goal scorer from a weak team then he could possibly only play three matches if his country fails in the group stage.

Only once has the host nation not progressed past the group stage so you should consider betting on Qatar to at least cause one upset in their group. The multi bet that punters can consider is betting on the highly favoured teams in the group stage to be group winners. Teams like England, Brazil, Netherlands, Argentina and France will make a great multi bet as group winners.

As this tournament is shorter than previous World Cups it is important to take into consideration the squad depth of the teams you are betting on as there is not much rest days between matches. In the round of 16 the second placed teams from the groups will be up against the group winners so there is potential of upsets especially as one of Germany or Spain will finish second in their group.

This World Cup is unique in many senses but mainly because the tournament is being held in November/ December for the first time. Players will be coming into the event straight from their clubs whereas in the past tournaments it was after the completion of the European season therefore fatigue could play a part especially with teams who don’t have great depth in their squad.

Qatar 2022 is only 29 days long and player well-being should be taken into consideration as there are fewer rest days between matches although this should not be a problem as there is very little travel with stadiums being an hour from each other. In Russia 2018 there were huge distances between stadiums which required longer breaks between matches to accommodate the travelling.

2022 World Cup Structure

Qatar 2022 has a very familiar structure to it as compared to past tournaments with the group stage followed by the round of 16, the quarter finals, semifinals and culminating with the final on the 18th December. The third place playoff match will take place a day earlier on the 17TH December.

There will be eight groups of four teams in the initial stage which kicks off on the 20 November. There will be four matches per day over 12 days. The top two teams will proceed to the round of 16 which begins on the 3rd of December. The quarter finals start on the 9th of December with the semi-finals being held on the 13th and 14th December.

2022 World Cup Facts

  • In past World Cups traveling was a serious factor between matches but in Qatar the furthest distance between stadiums will be 46 miles apart (75km) compared to Russia 2018 where the distance between stadiums was as far as 2687 miles. This will ensure players have enough time to recuperate.
  • The heat of Qatar even in winter will be a significant and players from the South American countries like Brazil and Argentina will have an advantage over the European teams like France and England as they are exposed to high temperatures unlike the European players which could influence the betting markets.
  • This will be the shortest World Cup at 29 days, four days shorter than the normal 32 days of the previous World Cups. The 2026 edition promises to be an extended one as it will be expanded to 48 teams. The number of matches will be 80 which will be 25% increase on this year’s 64 matches
